Cafe Lago: Seattle, Washington

Cafe Lago's Doposcuola

Starting at 6:30 p.m. every other Wednesday, Cafe Lago hosts a series of classes on various aspects of Italian food and culture. Each class accommodates up to 20 people and is free with dinner.

Class participants are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m, pick a spot and get to know their neighbors over complementary Prosecco and antipasti. Dinner orders are then taken and the class begins at 7 p.m.  Dinner is served during the class and the nights' lessons wrap up around 8:00. Those interested in attending Doposcuola are encouraged to make reservations, although walk-ins are accommodated as space is available. To make a reservation, call 206-329-8005.

We've joined forces with Seattle7Writers.org and  Old Renton Book Exchange to bring you "Read Local Doposcuola," a series from local authors March 7th, 14th, 28th and April 4th. Books will be available for purchase the night of each class thanks to Dacia, owner of the Old Renton Book Exchange.

Wednesday, March 7, 7 p.m. – Garth Stein

Garth Stein's third novel, The Art of Racing in the Rain, a New York Times and International bestseller, is narrated by a dog named Enzo who is a huge Formula One racing fan.  His favorite team?  Ferrari, of course!  Garth will read exciting racing excerpts from his novel and talk about the grand Italian racing tradition, as well as his own behind-the-scenes experience at the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy.

Wednesday, March 14, 7 p.m. – Jennie Shortridge

While Jennie Shortridge's bestselling novel Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe is set right here in our own quaint village of Fremont, its roots are in Italy. Heroine Mira Serafino was raised mostly in the arms of her nonna after losing her mother as a child, and when Mira flees small town life on the Oregon Coast, she brings her Italian roots with her to the Coffee Shop at the Center of the Universe. Jennie will read from and talk about the novel, and share Nonna's Italian Wedding Soup recipe.

Wednesday, March 28, 7 p.m. – Erica Bauermeister

Erica Bauermeister's novel The School of Essential Ingredients, a bestseller in both the US and Italy, was deeply influenced by the two years she spent living in Bergamo with her family.  She'll talk about life in an small, walled town in northern Italy, the way the Italians changed her attitude about food and cooking, and the book that came from it.

Wednesday, April 4, 7 p.m. – Robert Ferrigno
